Want to make a difference? Be part of something bigger? Learn some skills that could save a life?
Becoming a Surf Life Saver will teach you the core skills that could allow you to save yourself or someone else's life. There are a number of ways to get started:
Surf Rescue Certificate: For people aged 13-15, you can complete your Surf Rescue Certificate (SRC). This is an introductory course that will teach basic rescue and lifesaving skills. You will learn CPR, board and tube rescues as well as other key skills. This is a natural progression from Nippers (although nippers is not a prerequisite)
Bronze Medallion: For anyone aged 15+, this is the bread-and-butter of the lifesaving movement. This award will teach you all the skills you require to competently patrol a beach. It involves CPR, board and tube rescues, Spinal management and First Aid as well as basic incident management and much more. Hands on training will give you the skills you need, either via a 5-day intensive Bronze camp or smaller days over a series of weekends.
Radio Operators Certificate: Don't think you can complete the physical components but still want to be involved? You can do your Radio Operators Certificate (ROC) to learn how to use a lifesaving radio system and still join us on the beach! You can work as a lookout in our tower or as our communications specialist on the beach. It will also allow you to complete other awards such as First Aid, Advanced Resuscitation and Side-by-side, making you a valuable asset to the team regardless of physical ability. You can always do your Bronze Medallion later if you want!
Step 2 is to join our Team App "CPSLSC" if you haven't already. We post announcements here of upcoming courses, as well as on this website
